Advertising and disclosure

This page explains how LeaseholdExplained makes money, so you can read our guides knowing exactly how the site is funded and how we keep that funding separate from what we write.

How the site is funded

LeaseholdExplained is free to read. We cover the cost of researching, writing and maintaining the site mainly through advertising. Ads are served by a third-party advertising partner, and they are what allow us to keep every guide free and open to everyone.

Advertising does not influence our guides

This is the part that matters most. Advertisers have no say over what we write, which topics we cover, or the position we take. We do not let anyone pay to appear in our guidance, to be recommended, or to have criticism removed. The advertising sits around the content; it never shapes it.

From time to time we may include affiliate links, where we earn a small commission if you go on to use a service we have linked to, at no extra cost to you. Where we do this, we will make it clear. We only ever link to something because we think it could genuinely help, never because of the commission, and a commission never buys a recommendation.

Why you can rely on this

Our independence is the whole value of the site. If our guidance bent to suit advertisers, it would be worth no more than the marketing it was hiding. Keeping the two apart is a firm rule, and it is set out alongside the rest of our principles in our editorial standards.
